Tom's Hot Dogs opened in Downtown Panama City in 1981.
The hot dog joint was operated by owner Tom York of Birmingham, AL. Tom decided to open the restaurant after noticing that "there wasn't a good hot dog stand" in Panama City. They were let in on some secret recipes from a good friend of York. Gus, the owner of Pete's Famous in Birmingham, shared his Greek family recipes for the many chilis and sauces that we still serve at Tom's today.
Tom's quickly became a destination because of its unique and delicious treats. As many customers have confirmed through the years, our taste is something you can only get at Tom's. Despite a handful of owner changes, each owner has kept the recipes and secrets secured. The authentic taste you are served today is the same as it was in the 80's. You just don't mess with a good thing.
Our secrets are more than our sauce. Aside from the delicious treats we serve, we want to make you feel apart of the family at Tom's. That was the original mission at Tom's, and that's still the mission today. We serve quality dogs with quality service.
